Cistercian monk, abbot general of Alcobaça and professor of theology at Coimbra, who was bishop of Funchal from 1671 until his death in 1674. His short episcopate was troubled by disputes with the governor, the Franciscans and some of the secular clergy; he gave canonical approval to the Bom Jesus recolhimento and was buried in the cathedral.
