Main article Ferreira Pestana (Daniel) Entry on Daniel Ferreira Pestana (1824–1906), a Funchal-born army officer who rose to general and served long in Portuguese India; the text runs on (apparently merging a separate entry) into a long biography of his uncle, José Ferreira Pestana (1795–1885), mathematician, liberal exile, minister and twice governor-general of India.

Captain-major of Ribeira Brava, named as father of José Ferreira Pestana (and of Daniel in b000).
