César Augusto Mourão Pita was a Lisbon-born physician adopted as an infant by Dr António da Luz Pita. He wrote on Madeira's climate (1859, 1889) and was clinical director of the Hospício da Princesa Dona Maria Amélia in Funchal. He also served as a military surgeon and French consular agent.
