Portuguese historian and novelist whose history of the Inquisition in Portugal is cited on the first archbishop of Funchal, D. Martinho de Portugal, and on the persecution of New Christians in the islands. His novel Eurico o Presbítero was translated into French by the Viscondessa das Nogueiras, and he delivered the historical eulogy of Sebastião Xavier Botelho.
