Alarcão (D. João de)

D. João de Alarcão Vellasques Sarmento Osorio was appointed civil governor of Madeira by decree on April 5, 1885, and took office on May 8 of the same year. He was a deputy for Madeira in the legislative session from 1894 to 1895. He held high positions, including that of Minister of Justice. He died on September 13, 1918. He was the founder of the 'Sopa Económica' (see this name).
