Gypsies / Ciganos

On May 9 and 22, 1912, several families of gypsies landed in Funchal and settled in tents in Campo da Barca. The men were tinsmiths, and the women engaged in the trade of fortune-telling, with some of them having fairly regular features. They stayed in Madeira for about two months, and their attire and way of life aroused considerable interest among the Madeirans.
