Chocalheira (Briza maxima)

An indigenous grass, common in Madeira and Porto Santo. It is a forage plant easy to recognize by its large, ovoid, white or reddish spikelets. The chocalheirinha (Briza minor) is distinguished from the chocalheira by its very small, triangular spikelets. It is also common in Madeira and in the mountains of Porto Santo.
