Castelo Branco (Pedro de)
Pedro de Castelo Branco, Baron of S. Pedro, was born in Funchal on April 19, 1837, the son of Rear Admiral Joaquim Pedro de Castelo Branco. He held a doctorate in medicine from the University of Paris and worked as a senior official in the postal service for several years, later moving to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and entering the diplomatic career. He served as a secretary of legation in various European capitals and as chargé d'affaires in Berlin and The Hague, being appointed as a plenipotentiary minister in Constantinople in 1891. He later served as chief of staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and passed away in Lisbon on December 14, 1911.
