Castanho (Pico)

Eminence in the parish of Machico from which beautiful horizons are enjoyed from the parish of Caniço to the easternmost end of the island. It was on the slopes of this hill that the encounter and a shootout between the rebellious troops and the government forces took place on May 2, 1931, as will be further explained in the article on popular uprisings.
