Aguiar (Rui Dias de)

He was the son of Diogo Afonso de Aguiar and D. Isabel Gonçalves da Câmara, the third daughter of Zarco. He married Leonor Homem de Sousa, daughter of Garcia Homem de Sousa and Catarina Gonçalves da Câmara, the daughter of the discoverer of Madeira. He served for a long time in Africa, where he distinguished himself for his bravery. He valiantly died in the fortress of Gué, defending it from an attack by the indigenous people. Manuel Tomás mentions him in his poem to Insulana.
