Carros do Monte

The Monte sledges, in the form they have today, appeared in 1849 or 1850. Travelers who visited Madeira in the first quarter of the 19th century do not mention these sledges in the writings they left us. Before the appearance of the sledges, there were small sledges on which travelers who visited the parish of Monte sometimes descended.
