Canning (W. P.)

Commander of the English frigate Alligator, where Governor Valdez and other constitutionalists took refuge, at the time of the capture of Madeira by the Miguelist troops in 1828. He drowned in the tank of a farm belonging to an English merchant, on the afternoon of September 24, 1828.
