Camara Pestana (João da)

He is the brother of the late bacteriologist Dr. Luiz da Camara Pestana and was born in Funchal on October 17, 1871. He is an agronomist, has held the position of Director General of Agriculture, and was elected as a deputy for Madeira on November 13, 1913, resigning the mandate in May of the following year, as he had been elected senator for another district. He has collaborated in various agricultural magazines and is a member of the Portuguese Society of Natural Sciences, in whose bulletin he wrote the following articles: La Gangrène humide de la racine du Chataignier (vol. I1.,1907) and Destruction du Lecanium hesperidum L. par le Sporotrichum globuliferum Spegazzini (vol. 2.°, 1908).
