Calçada (Conde da)

Diogo de Ornelas de França Carvalhal Frazão Figueiroa, the first viscount and first count of Calçada, came from ancient and noble families of this island and was born on August 29, 1812. He was the administrator and owner of various estates, including Gaula and Conceição in Estreito da Calheta. He was appointed substitute civil governor of Funchal by decree of October 4, 1882, and took office on the 10th of the same month and year, having subsequently served several times in the absence of the incumbents. He passed away on September 18, 1906.
