Cabral (Henrique Read)

He was born in the Azores and was the director of the Funchal customs for several years, taking office in May 1892. He authored several works, and in this city, he published in 1895 a pamphlet entitled 'A New World,' of 56 pages, and in the same year a novel that he called historical, titled 'Angela Santa Clara,' of 201 pages, a work of pure fiction containing many anachronisms and various historical inaccuracies. His action takes place in Madeira.

Cabralia. A genus of bivalve shells, peculiar to Selvagem Grande. It was found in a fossiliferous layer of the Miocene tertiary.

The species Cabralia Schmitzii recalls the names of the late João Cabral de Noronha, former owner of the Selvagens, and of the Rev. Father Ernesto Schmitz, a distinguished ornithologist who was a professor at the Funchal seminary for many years.
