History

Byron (Comodoro John)

He was in Madeira from July 13 to 19, 1764, and commanded the Delfim, a British warship, which was accompanied by the Tamar, commanded by Captain Mouat. Byron was well received by the governor and limited himself to taking some refreshments here. The purpose of the expedition was to make discoveries of new regions and explore mainly the Atlantic Ocean, in the part between the Cape of Good Hope and the Strait of Magellan.
