Bufareira (Datura Stramonium)

A plant from the Solanaceae family, with funnel-shaped corollas, blue or white, and capsules covered with numerous prickles. It is found spontaneously in many places in Funchal and is very poisonous if ingested in high doses. Internally, it should be used with great caution; externally, it can be used in baths to combat rheumatic pains. Bufareira contains an alkaloid called daturine.
