Branco (Dr. Fidelio de Freitas)

Dr. Fidelio de Freitas Branco was born in Funchal on June 16, 1861, the son of the counselor Silvano de Freitas Branco and D. Maria Candida de Sant'Ana Branco. He completed his law degree at the University of Coimbra in 1884 and then practiced law for some time in Lisbon, but abandoned this career to dedicate himself to agriculture and the administration of his household. He represented Madeira in parliament during the legislatures of 1887 to 1889, 1890 to 1892, 1894 to 1895, and 1895 to 1897. He was also a deputy for a district on the mainland, and among the public service committees he served on was that of civil governor in one of the mainland districts. He died in Sintra on October 29, 1918.
