Braga (Teofilo)

This illustrious publicist, in his book Poetas Palacianos, dedicates a chapter to this archipelago, which he entitled Cyclo Poético da ilha da Madeira and in which he mentions the Madeiran poets whose compositions are featured in the Cancioneiro Geral by Garcia de Resende. This chapter is transcribed and eruditely commented on on page 765 and following of the book Saudades da Terra, by the authoritative pen of Dr. Alvaro Rodrigues de Azevedo. In the work of the same author Quarenta anos de vida literaria, from page 109 to 118, twelve letters from the illustrious annotator of Saudades are inserted, which deal with the publication of this work and the Romanceiro and Cancioneiro da Madeira, and in which very interesting elements for the literary history of this island are found.
