Bettencourt (Fr. Pedro de)

He belonged to the Bettencourt family of this island, where he was born around the mid-16th century. He joined the Seraphic Order of St. Francis, taking the name Fr. Pedro de S. Bartolomeu. He went to India and there founded a convent of nuns of his order. His story is covered in the Seraphic History by Fr. Manuel da Esperança.
