Bettencourt (D. Maria do Monte de Sant'Ana e Vasconcelos Moniz de)
She was one of the most distinguished Madeiran ladies for her virtues, intelligence, and erudition. She was born in Funchal around 1809, the daughter of Pedro de Sant'Ana e Vasconcelos Moniz de Bettencourt, and died in this city on August 12, 1884. She collaborated in various Madeiran newspapers and published in volumes the two novels, Cura de São Lourenço, Lisbon, 1855, 183 pages, and Bernardo e a mesa de prata de D. Diniz, Funchal, 1879, 249 pages.
