Beresford (Guilherme Carr)
This well-known general of the British army, who distinguished himself in the Peninsular Wars, was the commander of the English troops that occupied this island for the second time on December 24, 1807. Beresford left Madeira, heading to Portugal, accompanied by half of the forces under his command on August 17, 1808, being replaced on this island by the English colonel Mead.
