History

Voluntários Reais de D. Pedro

There was a battalion in Funchal with this name, during the time of Governor José Lúcio Travassos Valdez, later Count of Bonfim, which consisted of 400 infantrymen, whose enlistment began on June 26, 1828. Attached to the battalion, there was a cavalry company, which was supposed to have 64 troopers, but only managed to have half of this force, reasonably mounted. The Royal Volunteers of D. Pedro dispersed with the landing of the Miguelist troops in Madeira.
