Vitória (Fr. João Pinto da)
Born on this island in the third quarter of the 16th century and died in Valencia, Spain, in the year 1631. He joined the Carmelite order and went to Spain to complete his studies, remaining there until his death. He held the highest positions in his order, such as 'provincial of Aragon and visitor of the province of Andalusia'. He was a respected writer in his time, with Barbosa Machado mentioning the works Vida del Fr. Juan Sanz, Valencia, 1612, and Gerarchia Carmelitana, Valencia, 1616, both written in Spanish.
