Vila Mendo (Visconde de)
By decree of April 12, 1881, Visconde de Vila Mendo was appointed civil governor of Funchal, taking office on May 23 of the same year. He served for a few months. He was appointed civil governor of this district for a second time, by decree of November 10, 1882, taking office on the 16th of the same month and year. As an elective peer, he represented Madeira in the courts during the legislative sessions from 1884 to 1887 and from 1890 to 1892. António de Gouveia Osório was granted the title of Visconde de Vila Mendo, a parish in the district of Viseu where he had a manor and inherited estate from his ancestors, having been born there in 1826. He was a law graduate and a member of the Court of Auditors.
