Vieira (Augusto José)
He was born in Funchal on October 2, 1861, and died in Lisbon, where he had been residing for over 40 years, on December 27, 1918. He was the brother of Counselor Manuel José Vieira and João José Vieira, whom we will discuss later.
He attended the Funchal lyceum and enrolled in the Military School, but did not complete the course. In this city, he was an editor of 'A Republica', and in Lisbon, he collaborated in various newspapers, always advocating the most advanced ideas. He was the president of the Civil Registry Association and secretary of the Free Thought Federation. In 1909, he published the 'History of the Republican Party', which remained incomplete and from which three volumes were published.
