Vara de Salto

Fishing gear consisting of a vine or laurel rod, with a line at the end of which is a wire about half a meter long, equipped with a hook. It is used in the fishing of skipjack tuna and tuna, with the hook being smooth when intended to catch the former and barbed when intended for tuna fishing. When the skipjack tuna catches the hook, it jumps and usually hits the fisherman's chest, who then removes the hook from the fish with his teeth.
