Uveira (Vaccinium maderense)

Shrub or small tree common in the mountains of Madeira, where it forms extensive masses, sometimes quite extensive. It has lanceolate leaves, often reddish, and globe-campanulate corollas, speckled with red. The wood, which is quite hard, is used as fuel and for making charcoal, and a preserve is made from it that is useful in the treatment of coughs and colds.
