Travassos Valdez (Francisco)
He was the son of the Count of Bonfim, who was the governor and captain-general of Madeira from 1827 to 1828. He wrote: Six years of a traveller’s life in Western Africa (London 1861) and Africa Occidental (Lisbon 1864). In these two works, there are several references to Madeira, where the author resided as a child and where he returned on the occasion of his visit to West Africa.
