Trapiche

A location in the parish of Santo António do Funchal. It was the site of a farm of the same name with an excellent country house and an attached chapel dedicated to Santana and São João, built in 1814, being the oldest residence. It was on this farm that, in 1923, the benefactors Brothers of São João de Deus established a mental hospital, named Casa de Saúde do Trapiche, which we have already reported elsewhere in this work.
