Teixo (Taxus bacoata)

Tree or shrub of the Taxaceae family, almost extinct in the mountains of Madeira. It has linear leaves, dioecious flowers, and seeds with fleshy and scarlet arils. It produces reddish wood of good quality, but today it is almost unknown to the island's carpenters. The leaves of the teixo are poisonous. See Cadamosto.
