Tavares

Around the mid-15th century, Joana Tavares lived in Madeira, who was married to Vasco Esteves, also known as 'the one with good wines,' and after 1580, Bernardo Tavares de Sousa, of noble origin, established himself on this island. It is likely that the individuals with the surname Tavares who have existed here are descendants of these two lineages.
