This illustrious subject of British nationality, who lived in Madeira for several years and had the most ardent predilection for our land, as amply demonstrated in his exquisite books, was born in 1858 and died in England on March 7, 1932. Among his literary works, the Leaves from a Madeira Garden and the interesting novel Ace of Hearts stand out, the plot of which unfolds on this island.
