Smuts (General Jan Christaan)

This former Boer general arrived in Madeira on the English steamer Arundel Castle on June 7, 1921, being greeted on board by the Civil Governor and Military Commander, and receiving military honors from an infantry force stationed on Avenida Gonçalves Zarco. General Smuts, who visited various points in the city and its surroundings, including Monte and Terreiro da Luta, left for England on the same day.
