Silva (D. Mariana Xavier da)

This lady, originally from mainland Portugal, lived many years on this island. In 1884, she published a book in Lisbon with prose and verse compositions, entitled Na Madeira–Offerendas, which contains several tales and narratives, some of them referring to this island, which are read with great interest and pleasure. D. Mariana Xavier da Silva, as seen by the dates of some of the articles and poetic compositions contained in this volume, resided on this island from 1872 to 1881.
