Sarmento (José)
He was the son of José Sarmento and D. Maria de Oliveira Sarmento, and died in Funchal, where he was a native, on February 13, 1905, at the age of 63. He was a renowned pianist and organist at the Cathedral, also serving as a music teacher at the Episcopal Seminary. He had close relations with Platão de Vackcel, also a very distinguished musician, and collaborated in different newspapers in Funchal, his articles bearing witness to the great literary abilities he possessed.
