São Francisco Xavier (Capelas de)
In the place called Salão in the parish of Calheta, known as Cadeado, there is a small chapel with this name, which is still consecrated for worship. It was founded by Manuel da Silva Pinheiro in 1693, and the respective endowment deed is dated August 7 of the same year. It belongs to the heirs of D. Vicencia Julia de França Doria (1921).
Having the same patron saint, João Vieira de Afonseca erected a chapel in the parish of Santa Cruz in 1684.
There was also a hermitage with the same invocation in the parish of Porto da Cruz, in the place of Cruz da Guarda, whose founder is unknown, and it was owned by João Francisco Moniz de Meneses Cabral and his wife D. Maria Isidora Alvares de Carvalho, who bequeathed it to their nephew, Father Francisco Xavier de Sousa e Castro.
