São Francisco (Capelas de)
In ruins and long separated from the service of worship, the chapel of S. Francisco still exists in the parish of Calheta, which was the small church of the convent of Franciscan friars that once existed there. It belongs to Pedro César de Brito (1921).
In the parish of S. Pedro and on the way to Santo António, there was the chapel of S. Francisco, better known by the name of S. Francisco das Furnas. It was founded by Canon Pedro Correia Barbosa in the year 1697. It belonged to the morgado Jérvis de Atouguia. In the house adjacent to it, the Viscount of Atouguia (see this name) was born on July 7, 1797. Canon Pedro Correia Barbosa is the same person referred to on page 126 of volume I of this Elucidário.
Ambrosio Vieira de Andrade erected a chapel dedicated to S. Francisco in the parish of Santa Luzia in the year 1675.
