Santa Quitéria (Chapels of) / Santa Quitéria (Capelas de)
Regarding the chapel of this invocation, Dr. Álvaro de Azevedo states that it was founded by Simão de Nobrega in Curral das Freiras, which is a visible mistake. This chapel was located in the parish of Santo António and was built by the ensign Simão de Nobrega e Sousa and his wife Maria Tavares de Sousa, on the estate they owned in the Pico do Cardo area of that parish. In Curral das Freiras, there was only the hermitage of Santo Antonio, ordered to be built by the nuns of the convent of Santa Clara. The chapel of Santa Quiteria was built in the year 1727, with the respective endowment deed dated July 3 of that year. In 1814, it was found desecrated and had not been used for worship for many years. It gave its name to the place where it was built.
There was another chapel of the same invocation in the area of Lombo da Estrela, in the parish of Calheta, founded in 1724 by João Homem de Abreu and his wife D. Ana Quiteria or Luzia. The endowment deed is dated May 30 of that year.
Founded by Father João da Silva Alves, there was a chapel of Santa Quiteria in the parish of Madalena do Mar.
