Santana (Chapels of) / Santana (Capelas de)

The chapel of Santana in the parish of São Roque was built by Francisco Dias in 1607. Religious services are still held there.

At the location of Ribeiro Seco, in the parish of S. Martinho, now known as Santana, Agostinho Pedro de Vasconcelos Teixeira built a chapel of this invocation in 1780, on the estate he owned there, with the respective endowment deed dated April 22 of the same year. It still exists, as well as the adjacent house.

A chapel of the same invocation was built at the site of Cruz do Carvalho, in the parish of São Pedro, in 1790, by Dr. Antonio Dionisio da Silva Conde, Judge of the Orphans in Funchal.

In ruins is a chapel of Santana, at the site of Ribeira da Fernanda, in the parish of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos. It belonged to the Cardoso estate.

In the parish of Machico, at the Santana estate, there is a chapel with this invocation in good condition. We do not know the name of the founder or the year of its construction.

Of the same invocation, there was a chapel at the site of Fajã do Penedo in the parish of Boaventura, founded in 1768 by the morgado Antonio Francisco de Caires and his wife Teresa Maria de Barros, with the endowment deed dated April 20 of that year. It was demolished, as we were informed, shortly after 1840.
