Salema Vaz

Among the political deportees who came to this island in 1919 and were interned in the Lazareto de Gonçalo Aires houses, we find the poet Salema Vaz, who in 1921 published in Lisbon, in a splendid edition, a volume of verses entitled *Pâo do Exílio, Written during the exile and his journey from the Island of Madeira, city of Funchal, in the year MCMXIX, Lisbon, 1921, of 134 pages. The poetic compositions included in this volume were written from the journey and departure from Lisbon to Madeira and during the author's exile on this island, containing many references to various Madeiran people and things (1922).
