Salão

Reddish soil formed by the decomposition of volcanic materials. It is not suitable for vine cultivation, but potatoes and other crops grow very well in it.

Vegetable materials are absent or occur in very small quantities in the composition of salão.

The salão of Porto Santo is a land in which aluminum silicates predominate and, due to its plastic properties, is usually used in the roofing of small houses and sheds.
