Associação das Damas de Caridade
Founded in January 1876, its initiators were the chaplain of the church of S. Luiz de Lisboa, and the Superiora of the Hospício da Princesa D. Maria Amelia, in Funchal. The main purposes of this association are to protect and assist the poor and sick at home, especially mothers who, due to lack of means, cannot breastfeed their children.
