Procissão de Santo António
There are references to this procession, which departed from the Sé church, in documents from the beginning of the second quarter of the 19th century. It included three floats: one with Saint Anthony, the canon, another with Saint Anthony, the friar, and a third with Saint Anthony, the choir boy, with the same floats being respectively carried by canons of the Sé, friars of S. Francisco, and choir boys of the Cathedral. From the minutes of the session of the Municipal Council of Funchal on June 13, 1815, it is seen that the municipality accompanied the procession of Santo António.
Procession of Santa Bárbara. It departed from the chapel of São Lourenço, in the Fortress, and headed to the church of the Colégio, where a festival in honor of the saint took place. According to tradition, the procession was carried out by military personnel, with everyone, from the highest-ranking officer to the simple soldier, contributing a certain amount for the expenses of the festival.
In 1826, there was an association of brothers of Santa Barbara in Funchal, which aimed to distribute alms to those in need.
The image of Santa Barbara, which belonged to the chapel of São Lourenço, is now in the church of the Colégio.
