Associação Académica do Funchal

This extinct academic society was inaugurated on December 1, 1884, in one of the rooms of the São Lourenço Palace, with a speech by the late Marcelino Ribeiro de Mendonça, then a student at the Funchal lyceum. The newspaper O Académico was the organ of the same society.
