Pontes (Padre Armando Augusto de)

He was born in Funchal on May 18, 1836, and died in the parish of Machico on November 3, 1897. He attended the lyceum and the seminary of this city, and was ordained a priest on September 16, 1860. He served ecclesiastical functions in several parishes of this diocese, especially in the parish of Machico, where he was a parish priest for many years. He was a very intelligent man with vast knowledge, and also a model priest of impeccable character.

He had a significant collaboration in some periodicals, particularly in the former Jornal Verdade. He published the pamphlets O Domingo, a Fé, Funchal, 1895, 55 pages, Excursões na Madeira, Funchal, 1891, 106 pages, and Um monumento Histórico, Funchal, 1886, 27 pages.
