Pinto

This surname comes from the family of Lopo Fernandes Pinto and Gonçalo Pinto Alcoforado, both of noble descent. The first came to live in Madeira around the mid-15th century and died in 1500; the second started living on this island around 1500 and settled in Machico, where he passed away. Lopo Fernandes Pinto had sesmaria lands in Santana and in S. Jorge.
