Pestana Junior (Dr. Manuel Gregório)

He was born on the island of Porto Santo on August 16, 1886, the son of Manuel Gregorio Pestana and D. Carolina dos Ramos Pestana. He graduated in law from the University of Coimbra and practiced law in the districts of this island. He has served various public service commissions among us. He represented Madeira in the first constituent assembly that operated from 1911 to 1915 and in the legislative session from 1915 to 1917. He has contributed extensively to various newspapers and published the booklets O Problema Sacarino and Reconhecimento do Arquipelago da Madeira (1921). He was the Minister of Finance and in 1928 published the interesting and erudite historical study entitled D. Cristobal Colom ou Symam Palha.
