Pestana (Joaquim)

He was born in the parish of Camara de Lôbos on December 24, 1840, and was a distinguished poet, with his verses scattered in some periodicals in Funchal and the city of Ponta Delgada, and in the annuals Novo Almanach de Lembranças Luso-Brasileiro, Almanach das Senhoras, Almanach Madeirense, and Almanach de Lembranças Madeirense. He left a manuscript entitled Espinhos e Flores, in which it is said that many of his poems published in various almanacs and newspapers are gathered. He died in the parish of Camara de Lôbos on February 6, 1909, and the Novo Almanach de Lembranças Luso-Brasileiro, of which he was a collaborator for 38 years, published the portrait of the unfortunate Madeiran lyricist, as well as a brief note about him.
