Artemija

The common Madeiran name for Chrysanthemum Parthenium, a perennial plant of the Compositae family, easily recognizable by its pinnately dissected leaves, with more or less cut segments, and by its mediocre capitula, with all tubular flowers or ligulate marginal ones. Artemija (a corruption of artemisia) is also known by the name of 'alfinetes de senhora' and has a strong and penetrating smell, and a bitter taste. The flowering tops are stimulating, tonic, emmenagogic, and diuretic.
